About Us
Catman2 is a cage-free cat shelter and sanctuary located in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
We offer lifelong care, rehabilitation and adoption services, guided by compassion and respect for every animal we serve. Our mission is simple: protect vulnerable cats, support responsible pet ownership and strengthen our community through rescue and education.

Our Story
Catman2 was founded in 1996 by Dr. Harold “Catman” Sims and his wife Kay. Dr. Sims was a retired college biology professor with a lifelong love of animals, and after volunteering at animal shelters in Florida he envisioned a truly humane home for cats in Western North Carolina. The shelter began modestly and grew into the current Catman2 facility on a 10-acre property in Cullowhee. Today the shelter is a safe-for-life, cage-free environment where cats can play, rest and interact freely.
We typically house 30–50 cats at a time, each living in spacious rooms with screened outdoor porches and places to play and explore. Tours are available by appointment.
Who We Are
Catman2 is powered by a dedicated small team and supporters who share a deep commitment to feline welfare. In 2011, Kaleb joined the shelter as director and leads daily operations, adoptions and volunteer coordination. With support from local veterinarians and community partners, we work tirelessly to provide excellent medical care, socialization and long-term support for cats in our care.
We are proud to partner with local shelters such as the Jackson County Animal Shelter to pull cats who would otherwise face euthanasia due to space constraints.
What We Believe
• Every cat deserves dignity, care and a safe home.
• We do not support declawing as a practice, and educate owners on humane alternatives and enrichment.
• Spaying and neutering is essential to reducing pet overpopulation, and Catman2 actively provides low-cost services to help make it accessible to all.

Catman2 relies on the support of volunteers, fosters, sponsors and donors to continue our work. There are many ways to get involved — from helping socialize cats, assisting with adoptions, supporting low-cost spay/neuter programs, or contributing financially so we can keep saving lives.
